Project Status as of September 11th, 2026.
Phase 1 of the project used an off the shelf development board as a vehicle to develop and test simple mesh networking, only on the 400MHz band, with limited power output.
Phase 2 used a 2-board approach which implemented the same processor on a Pi Zero form factor, with slightly higher power output. Due to difficulty in supply, this has been discontinued.
Phase 3 introduces both new hardware and the Unified Firmware Platform, which is a single platform that supports the legacy mini-nodes, and new hardware, called the Advanced Mesh Network Controller (AMNC). The UFP implements a new communication mode called ‘OFDM-AB’, raising the bar with data speeds previously never realized, while preserving all the mesh networking capabilities of its predecessors. OFDM-AB is functional on prototype hardware, and the first run of the AMNC hardware has been built and is nearly completely debugged. Development of the UFP is ongoing, and currently all release plans are on track.
